I know, I know, it's only May, and it's too early to be thinking about Dickens. However, if any of y'all are interested in commissioning me to knit you a shawl, it's probably time to start planning. I can make plain working-class shawls and fancy ladies' shawls. I've got a copy of Victorian Lace Today and I'm not afraid to use it!
Last month I finally finished my Paisley Long Shawl. It's not, strictly speaking, a Victorian pattern, but it's inspired by the woven paisley shawls that the Victorians liked. NOT that I'm saying that I'm chomping at the bit to make another one (it was, er, difficult), but this it's a good example of what I can do.

Anyway, send me a PM if you're interested.

Wed, May 7, 2008 - 4:17 AMCan you say "gorgeous"?
I'll save up some money, first, and then you're definitely getting a PM from me. -

Tue, May 13, 2008 - 12:46 AMI'll reiterate the gorgeous part.
What are your prices like? I know they obviously range, but all I really need is something simple...I'm a maid in the Adventurer's Club, but I want to be able to step it up a bit when I go out and walk around. -

Re: shawl time
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 10:30 AMI just cranked out this shawl:

It took me about 18 hours of actual knitting time. I could probably be persuaded to do something easy like this for about $175, plus the cost of the yarn.
Obviously, I'd charge less for something even simpler, and more for something tough. -

Re: shawl time
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 10:36 AMI keep trying to convince Mrs Finching that she does NOT need another shawl... -

Re: shawl time
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 11:17 AMOh, but think how much fun it would be to make a new shawl appropriate for Mrs. Finching! The mind boggles! -

Re: shawl time
Thu, May 15, 2008 - 12:58 AMBased on whatever pattern Kate uses, I could do Mrs Finching matching gloves or armwarmers. -

Re: shawl time
Thu, May 15, 2008 - 7:37 AMOh, Ladies!
This needs to be a co-ordinated effort, here!
................A little Pink Birdie told me that Mrs. Finching might be getting a new gown next year (2009).
Mental Preparation is Key!

Re: shawl time
Tue, May 20, 2008 - 10:42 AMO hai, I knit another shawl last week. I was trying to see how fast I could do it, but I got bogged down by the heat. Who knew that cashmere could get so sticky?

It's kind of an awesome shawl, if I do say so myself. The nupps (the little bumps in the border) were a total pain in the ass, but otherwise it was free beer. I would totally make another one (bigger, next time).
