I'm looking to purchase a walking cane/stick for my hubby. Can anyone tell me where I might find one in the bay area?
If there are any Fair Folk looking to sell a used one that's in good condition please let me know.
Many thanks!

Seems to me your sweeting is quite crafty. Does he have any interest in making his very own? Nice bit of hickory or other wood, perhaps a glass doorknob and a brass tip? It could be divinely *his*.
Just a thought...

Re: Men's walking canes/sticks
Wed, December 5, 2007 - 5:15 PMWhat makes them "not at all period?" Sincere question, I don't know and I wouldn't want to steer anyone wrong if he asked my opinion on a walking stick. (The sphinx, eagle and hand holding ball are especially FABULOUS to look at, though I'd want to test-drive 'em for comfort.) -

Re: Men's walking canes/sticks
Wed, December 5, 2007 - 10:38 PMI said that they weren't ALL period. Most of them are rather fanciful, and some look like they'd shred your hand if you tried to use it as a walking stick. The plainer ones are more appropriate. The ones with dragons, gators, nouveau fantasies, etc. are a bit outlandish.
I was recently given the one with a compartment in the top for snuff, poison, etc. Tres cool.

Tue, December 4, 2007 - 10:51 AMAre you looking for a gentleman's or a working man's stick?
While there are a lot of good suggestions above for the former...
For the latter, you might try:

Tue, December 4, 2007 - 11:36 AMThank you for all the suggestions.
I did look at the ones in the haberdashery and they are very nice but none "sang" out to me. I think there's one on the designtoscano.com site that will work well. Thanks Rydell!
Allen could make one for himself but I thought it might be a nice gift to give him for his birthday this week. I have a bottle of 43-year old single malt for him but I want to give him something else that he could have long after the wiskey runs dry. -

I get the timing now.
You could combine the two gifts and get a cane that is a flask ; )
