My much beloved purple plaid ensemble is not going to fit this year. Not even with alterations. Nor can I be shaped into any semblance of period silhouette. ;)
So what did pregnant Victiorian women wear? I'm having a miserable time finding any references; can one of you lovely people point me the right direction? Thanks so much!

Sat, November 17, 2007 - 4:34 PMMaybe make a wrapper? I don't have my books with me, but I found this stuff online...I bet you could make (or have made for you) something comfortable that's still interesting.

Sat, November 17, 2007 - 5:26 PMBlessed host body ; )
How far have you to go?
Your current silhouette is period, you just need to dress it a little differently
I found this in the Kendra crack/porn:
www.powerhousemuseum.com/colle...ex.php
If you need this by opening, time is running out to pull off sewing from scratch. Although you might be able to wear it again, should you find yourself in the same situation in the future.
Could you do a skirt/shirt/jacket combo? Pulling the skirt up over the baby bump. I'm sure there are spart parts floating around in the fair cosmos that you could borrow for the run.
Just my tuppence.
Happy Baby!

We could totally get something together for you. PM me if you like.

Oh, and that should be 'spare' not spart. Spart parts. That's just silly... -

Re: Costuming for Pregnancy
Mon, November 19, 2007 - 6:25 PMWhen I was pregnant a couple years ago, I just forwent the hoops, hiked the skirt up almost to empire waist (above the baby), and made a small extender for the waistband. It passed costumes; who was also pregnant at the time :)
Oh, I also added a pair of suspenders to hold the skirt up, so I wasn't putting all that weight on the baby. I hid them under the jacket.
My costume is a skirt, shirt, and pagoda/bolero jacket. (normally with full hoops)
