Hi all,
just wondering how I can re-curl my hair piece for Dickens.
My clip in curls are pretty bad on the bottom part and I want them to look nice again.
I've heard of steaming or hot water or something....
I would really appreciate some help with this, since buying new ones is just not in my budget right now!
Thanks! :)

Re: Synthetic Hair Question
Wed, November 14, 2007 - 3:51 PMRoll the hair on sponge curlers and dip them for literally ONE second into a pot of boiling water. Let dry (may take a while - I usually leave mine on the rollers for a few hours, then take them out, as the rollers are usually sopping wet) and it should melt curls into your hair.
This only works with synthetic hair. And don't leave them in the water too long, or you'll totally melt the hair.

Re: Synthetic Hair Question
Wed, November 14, 2007 - 4:51 PMLast year I got tired of sleeping in curlers so I took a page out of Victorian Costuming(my bible). I went to the thift store and bought a human hair wig. I then took it apart. I then sewed a weft of hair onto a plastic hair comb(the kind at any beauty supply store) Over the weft I sewed a piece of black ribbon. I then used setting lotion(diluted as directed) and rolled them on wave curlers. I made two sets so I didn't have to roll them up on Saturday night. I could do it Monday night and they had till the next Saturday to set. At the end of last fair I rolled both sets up and put them in my costume/fabric room. I wore one set to get costume approved and they were light and bouncey -

Thu, November 15, 2007 - 6:36 PMOk so I only tried 2 curls in back.....I was so worried!
But it worked really well!!!!!!!! :)
The only thing I would do different is get wrapping papers for the ends and take more time and care doing it. Other then that it looks great!
Good luck! -

Re: Synthetic Hair Question
Mon, December 17, 2007 - 4:44 PMOh my goodness. I'm so glad that I saw this post. I have the same problem with a wonderful synthetic fall that I got 2 years ago and have worn frequently. The bottom curls are shot and need to be reset.
I'll try the boiling water solution and get back to y'all with the results.

Mon, December 3, 2007 - 1:51 PMFor those that would like to curl their own - I cannot recommend these curlers enough
www.softspikecurlers.com/
bought them several years ago and are not only easy to sleep on but also make great ringlets with my straight, doesnt hold a curl worth a damned hair
basically the contemporary version of rag curls
